Opportunities for Champions

From 25th June, DCSE provided TOT training for professionals. In that, two of our champions actively participated. It was great experience for them to learn more about training.

Here our champions share their experience with us about TOT.

Madhu Lodaya:

I joined TOT on Achievement Motivation because Mr. Naveen Jha invited me to join and I like learning new things. After this session, I am looking forward to finishing the last module and accreditation. The content coverage and different style of training which is more experiential is excellent for this type of model. It was more about understanding your self and also understanding others. Be aware of your own motivational style and others’ style, so then we can use this knowledge to achieve success.

In this training I learned that if I am an achievement oriented person then I am looking for excellence in all aspects of my life. One can be working in an organization and can still be entrepreneurial. Most important is the clarity of our goal, after that everything else will fall in place. We will be proactive in facing and dealing with internal and external challenges and blocks. We can use this training for ourselves as well as in the future to train others.

Bhaskar Bhat:

"It’s a great feeling to attend the TOT on Achievement Motivation. In fact I being a trainer, I never knew a lot of the new concepts which are related to entrepreneurial skills. Behavioral aspects of Achievement Motivation are filled with mind blowing concepts like people skills, blocks, arena, interpersonal relationship skills, achieving excellence, motivational style, learning style, achievement syndrome and lot more. The training was purely activity driven and full of instruments which are going to help analyze and evaluate each and every behavioral study and their reflections, too.

I hope the third module of the same TOT course will be conducted soon and make us still more successful in our life. "

“Hubli Champions” galloped into their second month of operation in July 2009! The Champions gathered at DCSE on the morning of 26th July, 2009 to hear the Director of DCSE, Mr. Naveen Jha, deliver an introductory note on public health, medical entrepreneurship and explain two models that exemplify these concepts.

Following an engaging discussion at DCSE, the Champions visited three sites in the health sector. Below you will find more information on each of the sites we visited.

1. Bhageerath:

The team of “Hubli Champions” went to a village called Shivhalli to study Bhageerath's work. They saw a bio-gas unit, which runs the kitchen waste from Anganwadis. The Champions learned about the Eco-Sanitation Toilets, Bhageerath constructed in the village. As well as other steps the Panchayat took to improve health in their village. Shivhalli Panchayat's extensive work has earned them the “Nirmal Grama Puraskar" award.

2. Toxics Link:

Next the Champions visited Navanagar’s Hospital, in Hubli and a hopsital in Dharwad, which is under the guidance of “Toxics Link.” They observed the hospital's unique waste management processes.

3. Visit to KHPT:

As their day's adventure neared an end, the Champions visited the KHPT office and learned about different HIV/AIDS related awareness programs and different approaches to educate the masses on HIV/AIDS. One such approach is the “Peer Education Model,” which has been very effective in spreading awareness of HIV/AIDS.

After the site visits, the members met at DCSE to debrief on their day and participate in interactive sessions with industry experts, who addressed the Champions doubts and queries. Mr. Ravindra of Grama Shikshana Foundation, spoke about oral health and the negative effects of smoking and chewing tobacco. Then, Dr. Gajanan from KHPT discussed different aspects of HIV/AIDS awareness.

During the 2nd month, the Champions also engaged in a social project by organizing their resources to contribute books to the Akshara Foundation.

Champions” were on their first visit on 13th June 2009. It was an early morning excursion to the “Akshaya Patra” Akshaya Patra is a mid-day meal program. An initiative which is run in collaboration of Public-Private Partnership. We learnt that the kitchen here in Hubli, is one of the largest of the kitchens run by the “Akshaya Patra”. It is from this single kitchen, that today they are able to feed well cooked, hygiene and healthy food to almost one and half lakh school children everyday!!! in Hubli-Dharwad region. The standards maintained here are of international level. It was amazing to see the effort and dedication put into the task to reach out in such large numbers. The staff begins cooking as early as 5 am everyday and right from storing the grains to the point of consumption, all the steps are monitored and every small detail is double checked. Through the efforts of many people, spread across the world, today millions of children are assured at least one square meal in India. Then the group was broken into two. And one headed to visit the” Agastya” Lab and the other headed to see the works of “Akshara Foundation” in the slum areas of old Hubli.

Akshara Foundation in Hubli is actively involved in providing elementary education to mainly the school dropouts. It encourages every child`s education. Their motto is “Every Child In School And Learning Well”. They have made provision for libraries and computers in the slum areas of Hubli and Dharwad. This motivates the children dwelling in these slum areas to learn to read and write. They also have accelerated learning programs, which help the child to bridge the gap accordingly before he or she is admitted to any school. “Agastya Foundation” works for the grassroots education. It has it`s mobile lab set up currently at the “Indira Gandhi Glass House”, Hubli. This is a very unique science lab, where in many of the school level science experiments are conducted with utmost ease. The lab is so well designed, that it facilitates children to visualise the solar system and phenomenons like eclipse in a more practical and fun way.

Apart from this, there are many more interesting and fun ways of learning science in Agastya`s mobile lab. If you ever happen to come across any of the Agastya`s lab, then definitely make a short trip to one. It is worthwhile.
