Posted by Hubli Champions On 5:43 AM

On Sunday, 24 October 2010, we gathered at 9 am at The Deshpande Foundation
for a presentation on health by Suzanne. Rizzo. Aft
er the presentation, half of the group traveled to Bhageerath and other half of went to Haath Mein Sehaat (HMS). At the end of the visit the group gathered at Bhoruka Charitable Trust (BCT).

Bhageerath:

Bhageerath works on sanitation in villages. We visited Belur, where Bhageerath has built 80
toilets and
worked with the Panchayat towards improving health in their village.

HMS: HMS works on water quality, sanitation, and hygiene. They conduct a 13 week hygiene education prog
ram for 4th standard students by using college volunteers as teachers. They also test water in slum areas in Hubli and Dharwad cities, and provide safewat (a chlorine based purification solution) to households with undrinkable water.

BCT:
It works towards reducing risk to HIV among high risk groups. They are more focusing on sex workers and their families and generating awareness on HIV/AIDS and other issues. The all champions visited to BCT and learn more about HIV/AIDS then some of cham
p
ions are interested to work with them.
