Hubli champions project SPARSH has touched the first milestone on 4th October 2010. Hubli champions and the Agastya Foundation have joined hand in hand to develop/spark English language interest in students of Kannada medium schools. Agastya International Foundation was started with the aim of ‘sparking-curiosity’ among young minds. Today, Agastya Foundation is one of the most renowned in the field of education using science as a medium.
Hubli champions have collected 200 + books which are simple, colorful, and have lots of pictures. These books have been handed over by guest of honor Mr. Naveen Jha of Deshpande Foundation to Mr. Nitin Desai of Agastya Foundation. One set of these books will be kept as one counter at Hubli center of Agastya. Remaining books will be sent to schools along with mobile science laboratory (6 vans). Hubli champions will train the personnel of Agastya to conductg activities and the Agastya staff will in turn train student volunteers. The activities at school that students engage in are: to read stories, to look up words in picture dictionary, to search for letters in words, to search for words in word search puzzle, to try cross word puzzle, to develop vocabulary, to learn grammar .
The main idea is to make English interesting and easy for Kannada medium student. It is easy for younger children to use books to to memorize spelling and develop vocabulary. In case the teachers of these schools take interest they will find lots of material in these books which they can use in their classes.
