The Champions Program is a uniqe initiative housed in the Deshpande Center for Social Entrepreneurship. We bring together professionals from all walks of life, who are highly motivated and eager to engage in exciting social initiatives. Champions participate in the program for a span of six months, during which the group visits local NGOs one Sunday every month to learn about innovative solutions that address some of our community's greatest needs. Mr. Narayana Murthy interacted with the Hubli Champions as a part of the Development Dialogue-2012, being organized by the Deshpande Foundation at Hotel Naveen on 14th Jan at 7:30PM.

After being briefed about the activities and the Champions Program, in which professionals from diverse fields are oriented about local problems, Mr. Murthy said there was a great need to institutionalize processes towards social development while working with local governance.

He said that there is a need for discipline to be inculcated right from school days so that our citizens of tomorrow are a more responsible towards the society. Mr Gururaj Deshpande also addressed the gathering and mentioned that the only constant in Society is the local residents. Elected representatives keep changing, Bureaucrats come and go, but the citizens, who are permanent, need to take the main initiative towards civic awareness and related issues.

Mr. Darpan Jain, DC, also participated in this meeting and emphasized that there are a lot of avenues for Citizens groups such as the Champions and promised to collaborate on issues that the Champions have already taken up. 

More than 37 Champions participated in this discussion alongwith Mr. Naveen Jha, CEO, Deshpande Foundation, Mrs Jaishree Deshpande, Co-founder of Deshpande foundation, Ms. Mallamma, Program manager of the Champions Program and members of TIE-Hubli.

On Sunday, 12th of June, 2011 DCSE Champions participated in “Social Entrepreneurship” module from 10:00 am to 3:00pm at Deshpande Foundation Hubli.  4 young entrepreneurs shared their experience and organization activities with Hubli Dharwad Champions. 

Ms. Sharavani launched and runs Safe Hands 24Х7. She proved security employment opportunity and housing keeping for low-income people.  It is going on Deshpande Foundation campus Hubli.

Mr. Sikander is an Entrepreneur in the field of rain water harvesting. His organization called Sankalpa Rural Development (SRDS). Mr. Sikander wants to create knowledge regarding the importance of rain water & implement rainwater harvesting models in the society by promoting house hold and organization services. 

Afforest and Kardi tales have shared their activities of the organization what they are doing in the society.  

Afforest- Mr. Manoj has shared about Afforest organization activities what they are doing presently.  They seek to save last great forests on earth by preserving the plants.


 












Kardi Tales- Mr. Rajive has talked regarding “Kardi tales Activities” how they are doing with students and teachers of privet schools.  Learn by watching and doing. Students can easily learn through this method without any burden.













This is the last module for Hubli and Dharwad Champions.  Now they have to focus on capstone projects.

Champions this is for your reference where you can attend the programs in the Deshpande Foundation and always available this schedule on blog.


On the 24th of August 2011, Deshpande Foundation organized a visit for Champions to various NGOs working in Hubli and Dharwad. Champions have visited Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement at Dharwad. Mr. Chandrashekhar, Program Coordinator of SVYM, presented about YES projects and how they work with youths to help them change themselves and their community. We have visited to Upin betta to meet YVYM Leaders at Dharwad .
Mr.Naveen Jha spoke about youths taking initiative in their lives. A LEAD student also shared her own experiences.

SVYM- The Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement’s (SVYM) (WWW.svym.net). It’s mainly focusing on sustainable youth action for education and sanitation (YES-Youth, Education and sanitation). This is the Nation building program through youths and encouraging the women in the YES project. SVYM is giving training for youths under YES project, which is called youth Development training program for youths. Youth motivated form that program so now they are working in their village for development.



LEAD- Lead-DCSE is offering students an opportunity to make a change in the word today. LEADers do have the opportunity to network with successful social entrepreneurs. Lead program is a providing path to youths who have unique ideas to do something for the society.

Champions are very happy with both DCSE Leaders and SVYM youth. Their work is really amazing and appreciated.
