The Champions Program is a uniqe initiative housed in the Deshpande Center for Social Entrepreneurship. We bring together professionals from all walks of life, who are highly motivated and eager to engage in exciting social initiatives. Champions participate in the program for a span of six months, during which the group visits local NGOs one Sunday every month to learn about innovative solutions that address some of our community's greatest needs. Livelihood Visit To Haveri

We (Champions) visited Haveri on 27th of March to see organizations working to improve the livelihoods of people. We could visit three such NGOs named I Create, Hand in Hand and Navachetana Foundation operating in Haveri. The day started with the presentation by Mr. Naveen Jha about Livelihood in the Sandbox at 7:30 AM.

I create: I create is creating grassroots entrepreneurs and gives training for them to start their enterprise. They are creating opportunities for women and men in rural and semi urban. The reason be hand this project stopping migrate from the villages.





Hand In Hand: Hand In Hand organization’s main aim is creating enterprises and jobs through self help groups. It is a good opportunity for low income people to start up their own businesses in the local area.

Navachetana: They shared information about milk quality and their service and also shown their dairy who they are supplying milk to customers.

Navachetana is Microfinance organization. Its non-banking finance company and its giving services that extends micro-loans to poor women who are excluded from mainstream banking services. The micro-enterprises created as a result of NMSPL loans enhance not only the livelihoods of borrowers, but also the lives of their families.



Health Site Visit

All Champions gathered at 9:30 AM in kittle science lab Dharwad on 20th Feb, to know more about HMS activities which is working water qualities after that we went to BCT which is working on HIV and AIDS.








HMS Mr. Devadanam director of HMS have given information about HMS, how they are working with slum to maintain quality in water then we went to slum to bring water for sample from 6 house before going lab Voluntaries tested water their only where they collected after looking that we have gone to BCT.





BHORUKA CHARTIABLE TRUST: We have visited kushagle where BCT is working. They work on Health and Education who is affected and infected by HIV and AIDS. BCT is providing education and nutritious food to improve their health under the Inchara project.















Finally, Champions were invited to the DCSE Digital Lab for an IT training. Here they learned the importance and benefits of social networking sites such as Face book, as well as the financial benefits of services like Way2SMS which also provide back-up services in the case of a lost mobile.
